OPPO Unveils 2024 Sustainability Report, Achieves Climate Milestone Two Years Ahead of Schedule
OPPO has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, marking the fifth consecutive year of its annual disclosure. Notably, the company revealed it had reached peak carbon emissions across its operations in 2022—two years ahead of its original climate target. As a global technology leader operating in over 70 countries and regions, and ranked as the world’s fourth-largest smartphone brand for four consecutive years, OPPO highlights its continued commitment to sustainability. The report outlines progress across five key pillars: virtuous innovation, environmental stewardship, ecosystem collaboration, operational integrity, and employee well-being. Guided by its refreshed brand ethos, “Make Your Moment,” OPPO aims to drive sustainability forward through green innovation and responsible technology.
Greener Operations and Products
In 2023, OPPO pledged to reach peak carbon emissions by 2024 and achieve carbon neutrality across its operations by 2050. Since then, the company has implemented numerous initiatives to reduce emissions intensity, resulting in a steady decline in operational carbon output in both 2023 and 2024. Specifically, OPPO reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 3.2% year-over-year in 2024—equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of approximately 514,320 mature trees. Through collaborative efforts with supply chain partners, Scope 3 emissions also dropped by 9.3% compared to the previous year.
Beyond emissions, OPPO has adopted green practices throughout its product lifecycle. In 2024, the company introduced lightweight packaging across all smartphones, saving an estimated 10 tons of paper per million units—roughly preserving 200 trees. Eco-friendly materials such as sugarcane and bamboo residues now replace traditional paper in packaging. In Europe, recycled material content in mobile phone boxes increased from 45% to 55%. OPPO also enhances product durability through innovative engineering—such as the OPPO A3 Pro’s 360° Armour Body, designed for superior drop protection and everyday resilience.
Virtuous Innovation Enhancing Everyday Life
Innovation remains a cornerstone of OPPO’s strategy, with over 113,000 global patent applications—91% of which are invention patents. In line with its mission “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World,” OPPO is dedicated to inclusive and accessible technology. The company has integrated AI features across its entire smartphone lineup, delivering over 100 AI-powered functions to 50 million users worldwide. Its accessibility features—such as real-time speech-to-text, screen magnification, and adaptive color correction—empower users with visual or hearing impairments to fully engage with technology.
OPPO also advances health-focused innovations. Its smartwatches offer “Health Insights,” which utilize sensor data and AI to track heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and sleep quality. With added capabilities like temperature change and sleep analysis, users receive tailored health risk assessments and recommendations. Notably, OPPO’s AI-powered blood pressure classification technology supports continuous, non-invasive hypertension monitoring—representing the largest real-world study of its kind.
Corporate Citizenship and Community Engagement
In 2024, OPPO contributed over 450 million RMB to public welfare efforts, supporting sustainability in areas such as environmental protection, education, culture, and sports. The company launched the Culture in a Shot initiative in collaboration with Discovery Channel, using imaging technology to celebrate cultural diversity. Featuring themes like “Portraits of Legacy” (2024) and “Celebrate the Moment” (2025), the campaign highlights stories of heritage and festivity across 15 countries.
OPPO also partnered with UNESCO in 2024 to donate 1,000 tablets, supporting education and cultural initiatives in Africa and Asia. As the Official Smartphone Product Partner of the UEFA Champions League, OPPO invests in football development through pitch renovations, gear donations, and training programs—empowering young athletes in countries such as Brazil, Egypt, and Mexico.
With a vision to become a sustainable technology company contributing to a better world, OPPO is committed to driving forward global sustainable development through innovation and collaboration. For more insights into its progress and initiatives, explore the full 2024 OPPO Sustainability Report.
