Eastern Communications Supports Government’s Push for a Digital-First Philippines

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Eastern Communications continues to champion the Philippine government’s digital-first agenda through impactful initiatives that strengthen connectivity, promote digital literacy, and broaden access to quality education. From powering the May 2025 election vote count to connecting remote schools and expanding its regional footprint, the company is driving progress in building the nation’s digital backbone.

“As a reliable technology partner, we are proud to collaborate with the government and other like-minded organizations to advance digital transformation nationwide,” said Atty. Aileen Regio, Co-Coordinator of Eastern Communications. “Through enhanced connectivity, digital learning programs, and regional expansion, we remain dedicated to enabling inclusive growth for Filipinos everywhere.”

Eastern Communications reaffirms its mission to make technology more accessible—empowering institutions, communities, and individuals to thrive in today’s digital world.

Enabling Secure Elections and Remote Learning

Eastern Communications played a key role during the May 2025 national elections by delivering fast and secure connectivity for the official vote count at The Manila Hotel in Ermita, Manila. Its dependable network enabled real-time reporting and seamless operations throughout the event.

“The provision of reliable, high-quality connectivity was critical to the successful, transparent transmission of election data,” said Atty. Joey Lina, President of The Manila Hotel, in a formal letter expressing gratitude for Eastern’s vital support.

In line with its goal to bridge the digital divide, Eastern has also renewed its partnership with global nonprofit Unconnected.org and the Department of Education (DepEd) to bring internet access to remote and underserved schools. This joint initiative provides students and educators in far-flung areas with tools to engage and succeed in the digital age.

Recent beneficiaries include Panicuason Elementary School in Naga (July 15), San Jose Elementary School in Dipolog (July 22), and Namabbalan Integrated School in Tuguegarao (July 24). Additional schools scheduled for connectivity rollouts in August include Paopao High School (General Santos), Capisan Elementary School (Zamboanga), Patrocino A. Lachica Integrated School (Aklan), and Alambre Elementary School (Davao), with more to follow.

Expanding in Mindanao, Upskilling Local Talent

Eastern Communications is accelerating its expansion in Mindanao, officially launching services in Dipolog City on July 22, followed by General Santos City in Q3 2025. These moves support the company’s broader goal of driving regional development and stimulating economic activity through stronger digital infrastructure.

Supporting this growth is Eastern’s deployment of a high-capacity Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Network, capable of delivering terabits-per-second (Tbps) bandwidth. This scalable, ultra-reliable backbone ensures consistent service nationwide, with flexible capacity for future demands and inter-island connectivity.

Beyond infrastructure, Eastern is investing in digital skills-building through programs like “Access Eastern” and “Brown Bag Sessions.” These workshops and learning events equip local IT professionals and community leaders with essential tools for meaningful participation in the digital economy.

“These programs go beyond just providing access—they empower communities,” said Jaeson Evangelista, Eastern Communications Co-Coordinator. “We believe every Filipino deserves to benefit from digital progress, and we’re committed to making that vision a reality.”

With over 145 years of service, Eastern Communications upholds its “High Tech” and “High Touch” promise—blending advanced technology with personalized service to create lasting impact. By working closely with both public and private sectors, the company remains a steadfast partner in building a digitally inclusive Philippines.
